Spencer Plumlee was born in Memphis, Tennessee, to Walter and Pat, loving Christian parents. He has one younger brother Stewart who works as a banker in Tennessee. His family attended Germantown Baptist Church throughout his childhood and at the age of seven, Spencer accepted Christ and was publicly baptized. Spencer met his beautiful wife Shelley while both attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. They were married in 2008 and had their first son Seth in 2009 and their second son Noah in 2012. In 2004, Spencer completed an undergraduate degree in economics and finance at Christian Brothers University in Memphis. During these college years, he attended Kirby Woods Baptist Church where he felt his call to be a pastor. Upon graduation, he moved to Fort Worth and after finishing his Master of Divinity in 2007, he began his doctorate in systematic theology. In 2013, he completed his Doctor of Philosophy, culminating in his dissertation on Thomas Grantham (1633-1692), General Baptist pastor and theologian. Spencer has served in churches in South Carolina and Texas as a youth minister, college minister, and discipleship pastor. Most recently, Spencer served as Grow Pastor at Southcliff Baptist Church in Fort Worth prior to coming to Riverview in March 2013.
